Kris Medlen, Atlanta Braves (7-1, 1.56 ERA)
The Braves' starter has won five in a row and is 6-0 in his last seven starts going back to July 31. Medlen hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last 33 innings of work including two complete games. He has 34 strikeouts in that span.
Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Phillies (14-6, 3.04 ERA)
Hamels hasn’t tasted defeat since August 2, going 3-0 in his last five starts. He’s had to settled for back-to-back no-decisions in his last two outings but has allowed only nine total earned runs in that five-game span. The southpaw is 3-1 with a 3.48 ERA lifetime versus the Rockies.
Slumping
Chris Capuano, Los Angeles Dodgers (11-10, 3.63 ERA)
Capuano is flirting with a .500 record heading into the weekend. The Dodgers' lefty has lost six of his last 10 starts and has just two wins to show for in that span. He’s gone 0-2 in his last three, boasting a bulky 8.44 ERA in those outings.
Zach McAllister, Cleveland Indians (5-6, 4.26 ERA)
Indians pitchers have been mainstays in the “Slumping” section since the All-Star break and McAllister is no exception. The Tribe’s right-hander is winless in his last four trips to the bump including back-to-back losses heading into the weekend. Add to that a dismal record versus the Twins – Saturday’s opponent. He’s 0-1 with an ERA north of 10.00 versus Minnesota this season.
