Friday's streaking and slumping starting pitchers

STREAKING

Cliff Lee, Philadelphia Phillies (6-8, 3.18)

After winning just three starts in his first five months, Lee is 3-1 in September with a 0.99 ERA. The left-hander has struck out 21 hitters in 16 innings in his past two starts. Lee is 1-1 with a 4.63 ERA in two starts against Miami this season.

Jered Weaver, Los Angeles Angels (19-4, 2.74)

Weaver has won his last three starts to keep himself in the Cy Young Award discussion. He held the Chicago White Sox to one run over 6 1/3 innings in his last outing, setting a career high for wins. After losing his first start against the Rangers this year, Weaver has won the last three meetings to improve to 12-7 with a 3.65 ERA in 29 starts against Texas.

SLUMPING

A.J. Griffin, Oakland Athletics (6-1, 2.80)

After winning six straight, Griffin has struggled in his last two outings. The 24-year-old rookie permitted nine runs on 15 hits - including four homers - to earn a pair of early exits. Griffin pitched well in his lone outing versus Seattle, allowing one run and striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings in a 6-1 triumph on Sept. 7.

Aaron Cook, Boston Red Sox (4-10, 5.13)

Cook received a no-decision against the Orioles last Saturday despite giving up five runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. He defeated Tampa Bay in his previous start to end a five-game losing skid. Cook is 0-2 with an 8.78 ERA in three starts against Baltimore, all coming this season.
