Another chance for Weeks

With Triple-A Sacramento out of the playoffs, second baseman Jemile Weeks will be among the players added to the Oakland Athletics' roster for Monday's game in Anaheim.

Susan Slusser reports Weeks, first baseman Daric Barton and right-hander Jesse Chavez will be part of the September call-ups.

Weeks was hitting just .220 with a dismal .302 slugging percentage before being demoted to Triple-A Sacramento last month and manager Bob Melvin made no guarantee that the second baseman would return as a September call-up. Weeks responded by hitting .333 in 10 games for Sacramento. The Athletics haven't given up on Weeks for 2013, who hit over .300 last season, but were unwilling to have him work out his problems in the midst of a playoff race.

Cliff Pennington and Adam Rosales have been starting at second base since Weeks' demotion.
