Kenley Jansen will find out on Tuesday whether or not he will pitch again this season as he awaits word from doctors as to how long he will need to take blood-thinning medication needed to treat his heart condition.
Jensen received a pep talk Sunday from heart patient Tommy Lasorda.
The earliest Jensen could resume throwing is Friday. However, if doctors feel he must continue to treat his irregular heartbeat with this drug, then his season will be over. In fact, Jansen will not even be allowed to sit in the dugout if that is the case, so great is the risk of severe bleeding from this medication.
Ronald Belisario and Brandon League should continue to split the save chances for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Jansen's absence in 2012. As for the future, one hopes Jansen will eventually be back at 100 percent again. However, this illness may rear its head again at any time, so there always will need to be a "Plan B" in place for any team with Jansen on it.
