The Chicago White Sox have used their bullpen a lot the past several weeks and could use one of their starters, Francisco Liriano, in a relief role to alleviate some of the workload, tweeted Chuck Garfien of Comcast SportsNet Chicagoearlier this week.
That seems to be the plan, now that skipper Robin Ventura and pitching coach Don Cooper have announced their starting rotation for the weekend, and it doesn't include Liriano, tweets Mark Gonzalez.
Liriano has been inconsistent all year and that hasn't changed since he was traded from Minnesota to the White Sox. Sending him to the bullpen for the rest of the season might be best for him and the team, anyway, and if the White Sox get into the postseason Liriano is probably going to be used in that role since the club has four other starters ahead of him in line to fill the rotation needs.
The southpaw is mighty tough on left-handers, holding them to a .291 slugging and .205 average this season, potentially giving manager Robin Ventura another left-on-left option earlier in the game without having to go to setup man Matt Thornton right away.
