The Washington Nationals are well on their way to the postseason, and certainly have their eyes on October, but after the World Series, whether they are in it or not, there will be decisions to make. One of those being the option year on first baseman Adam LaRoche.
LaRoche's performance this season -- .269/.340/.503 with 30 home runs -- may have deemed such a decision of the easy variety, rather than a difficult one. The $10 million option appears to be a bargain, especially considering the lack of options on the free agent market, and CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman wrote earlier this month that the clubdoes indeed want to bring LaRoche back.
In Monday's Washington Post, manager Davey Johnson tells Adam Kilgore he wants LaRoche back in 2013.
It's conceivable that the Nats could explore a multi-year solution with the 32-year-old, who hasn't played for the same team more than two years straight since his first three years in the big leagues and may want to remain in Washington as long as possible.
