Friday's streaking and slumping starting pitchers

STREAKING

Max Scherzer, Detroit Tigers (15-6, 3.93)

Scherzer tossed eight scoreless innings to pick up the win against the White Sox Saturday. The hard-throwing righty has been solid over his last five starts, allowing just four earned runs over 35 innings while grabbing wins in all five outings. The strikeout machine toes the rubber on the road in Los Angeles against the Angels next.

Derek Holland, Texas Rangers (10-6, 4.79)

Holland yielded two runs in seven innings of work as Texas destroyed Cleveland Sunday. The lefty tossed his third quality start in a row, posting a 3-0 record with a 3.60 ERA during that span. Holland takes on Tampa Bay in his next outing.

SLUMPING

Jacob Turner, Miami Marlins (1-3, 7.33)

Turner gave up five runs in five innings in a loss to Washington last time out. The right-hander has allowed eight runs in 11 innings since being acquired from Detroit. The road doesn’t get any easier for the 21-year-old hurler, as he draws Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals Friday.

Paul Maholm, Atlanta Braves (11-9, 3.79)

Maholm left his last start against the Phillies without recording an out in the third inning, marking his shortest outing of the season. He was rocked for seven runs on six hits and is winless in this last three starts. He takes the bump in New York against the Mets next time out.
