Potential interest in Damon

The Cleveland Indians have designated Johnny Damon for assignment, which means the club has 10 days to trade or release the veteran. To trade him, he first has to clear the 72-hours waiver period mandated by both the DFA guidelines and the league's rules on trades after July 31. WHo might be interested?

Salary isn't an issue here and we could see a club such as Tampa Bay or Detroit make a claim or try and trade for Damon. The left-handed hitter isn't the only option for clubs. however.

Bobby Abreu was designated for assignment recently by the Dodgers and Carlos Lee is believed to be trade-available. Lyle Overbay was DFA'd by Arizona last week, too.

The Reds and Orioles, who reportedly have interest in Overbay, could also show similar interest in Abreu and Damon.
