Saturday's streaking and slumping starting pitchers

STREAKING

Hiroki Kuroda, New York Yankees (12-8, 2.96)

Kuroda continued his run of exceptional starts on Sunday, holding the Red Sox to a single run over eight innings to pick up his 12th win of the season. The right-hander has surrendered only eight runs over his last seven starts heading into action Saturday in Cleveland.

Madison Bumgarner, San Francisco Giants (14-7, 2.83)

Bumgarner racked up 10 strikeouts over eight shutout innings of a 2-1 victory over the Dodgers last time out and has put together a string of eight consecutive quality starts. The 23-year-old looks to extend that streak to nine when the Giants host the Braves.

SLUMPING

Dan Haren, Los Angeles Angels (8-10, 4.90)

Haren has taken back-to-back losses, surrendering 10 earned runs in his last seven innings pitched. Manager Mike Scioscia recently said he will consider using a four-man rotation if Haren can’t step up in his next outing in Detroit.

Josh Johnson, Miami Marlins (7-10, 3.73)

Johnson has taken the loss in three consecutive starts despite only allowing seven earned runs during that span. The Marlins have only provided the right-hander with three runs of support over his last three outings heading into a tough road battle in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.
