STREAKING
David Price, Tampa Bay Rays (16-4, 2.39)
Price has put together 11 consecutive quality starts, pitching at least seven innings in each of those outings. His last loss was June 13 versus the Mets and he’s only surrendered two earned runs in three August starts. The lefty takes the bump at home against the Royals on Tuesday.
Paul Maholm, Atlanta Braves (11-7, 3.39 ERA)
Maholm continued his recent success since joining the Braves, picking up the win against the Padres in his last outing. The right-hander has only allowed one earned run in his last 16 innings pitched but faces a tough test against Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals in Washington next time out.
SLUMPING
Homer Bailey, Cincinnati Reds (10-8, 4.16 ERA)
Bailey had another tough outing Thursday, allowing six runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings to the Mets. The righty has struggled in his last four starts, posting a 9.15 ERA in 19 1/3 innings with just one win. He starts on the road in Philadelphia next.
A.J. Burnett, Pittsburgh Pirates (15-4, 3.54 ERA)
Burnett picked up the win against the Dodgers on Thursday despite allowing six runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander has been solid for the Bucs this season but he's been a little shaky recently, giving up 11 runs and 16 hits in his last 12 1/3 innings. He toes the rubber in San Diego at Petco Park in his next outing.
