First Melky Cabrera was suspended for testing positive for a banned substance and now Justin Christian, who was called up to take Cabrera's place on the roster, is headed for the disabled list due to a sprained wrist, the team announced Thursday. The club has recalled Francisco Peguero to fill the roster spot.
Peguero, 24, may help the club versus left-handed pitching, but his minor league production does not suggest he's capable of much more than that.
Whether the Giants have stepped up their efforts to add an outfielder before the waiver deadline next Friday remains to be seen, but there may be opportunities for them if the price is right.
Most times when players are placed on waivers, whether they clear or are claimed, it goes unreported, so there may be some legitimate possibilities for the Giants, perhaps even a player such as Jeff Francoeur.
