Friday betting tips

WEATHER TO WATCH

According to weather underground, the wind should be blowing straight out to left field at Wrigley in Chicago today. Oddsmakers have the Cubs favored at -155 but as per normal, they will hold off on posting a total for this game. Keep an eye out to get it early. It’s likely to go up after its release.

WHO'S HOT?

The B.C. Lions. They have won and covered their last three games and their defense hasn’t given up a touchdown in over 180 minutes. They’re 5.5-point favorites at Winnipeg tonight.

WHO'S NOT?

Red Sox pitching staff. Boston has given up 30 runs in its past four games, all of which it lost straight up and on the runline. The Sox are 13-21 in his absence with their designated hitters going 31 of 130 (.238) with seven RBIs and no home runs.

KEY STAT

11-23. That was the Blue Jays’ record without slugger Jose Bautista in the lineup due to a wrist injury. He returns tonight for Toronto.

GAME OF THE DAY

Philadelphia Eagles at Cleveland Browns (-4, 37)

INJURY THAT SHOULDN'T BE OVERLOOKED

It sounds like the Red Sox’ David Ortiz will be activated off the DL today after being out since July 17 with an Achilles heel injury.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE

BETTING NEWS AND NOTES

According to the Detroit News: "Most Valuable Player candidate Miguel Cabrera left the Tigers game in the top of the second inning with a sore right ankle. The Tigers said his status is considered day to day."

Sportsbooks didn’t have a line out for the Angels-Tigers game as of Friday morning. We have the early overnight line though and it’s set with the Angels as slight -115 road dogs, courtesy of The Sports Club. The total was recommended at 9 with Greinke and Porcello on the mound.

Rookie quarterback Nick Foles will get the start tonight for the Philadelphia Eagles in Cleveland. Trent Edwards will likely come on in the second quarter, though. Michael Vick won't play again in the preseason due to a rib injury but should be ready for Week 1.
