The Cleveland Indians designated Derek Lowe for assignment Wednesday, giving them 10 days to trade or release the right-hander. He's owed some jack still -- $nearly $5 million the rest of the season and has struggled mightily since May. Is there a fit out there?
Lowe's salary isn't an issue -- the Indians received $10 million from the Braves when they acquired him over the offseason and Lowe's new club isn't likely to be taking on big dollars, even if they trade for him inside the 10-day period.
Nick Cafardo writes Thursday that Lowe would "welcome" a return to the Boston Red Sox, and GM Ben Cherington told a Boston readio show that there is some interest.
