Streaking
C.C. Sabathia, New York Yankees (10-3, 3.27 ERA)
Sabathia didn’t miss a beat in his first start since coming off the disabled list. The hefty lefty tossed six scoreless innings, giving up only four hits and striking out six in a win over Toronto. Sabathia is 3-0 in his last four outings and is 5-1 in his seven starts since May 26.
Slumping
Jon Lester, Boston Red Sox (5-7, 4.80 ERA)
Lester is winless in his last three starts, taking losses in his two most recent trips to the bump. The southpaw gave up six earned runs on seven hits in just four innings versus the White Sox Tuesday. Luckily, Lester owns the Blue Jays with an 11-5 record and career 3.20 ERA in 20 starts versus Toronto.
Jeremy Guthrie, Kansas City Royals (3-9, 6.35 ERA)
The Royals were sick of looking at Jonathan Sanchez so they swapped one limp arm for another. Sure, Guthrie’s numbers are a bit better than Sanchez’s 1-6 mark and 7.76 ERA, but the former Rockies dud hasn’t won a game since May 31 and is 0-2 in his last four starts since returning to the rotation. Kansas City is hoping Guthrie’s career success versus the Twins – 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA – pays off Sunday.
