Mike Modano: Not Done Yet?

Update: Although he retired last fall, Modano may not have officially closed the book on his NHL career, The Buffalo News reports. "If the phone ever rang, if there was somebody who inquired, I would give it serious thought about playing," he said. "I just feel the way my season ended in Detroit, because of the injury, affected me playing the rest of the year. Everything was just starting to fall into place. I was playing catch-up the rest of the year."
Recommendation: Modano just turned 42, so there's probably a limit to what he can still do as a forward even if he's serious. But Dominik Hasek is tossing the idea around at 47, so why not? It's a thin crop of centers available among remaining free agents or trade candidates, so perhaps some needy team becomes willing to deal with Modano's age-induced limitations in return for his playmaking skills and leadership capabilities.
This guy continues to amaze me with his willingness to go above and beyond. Great guy - Always has been, always will be.
