The Boston Red Sox activated outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury from the 60-day disabled list prior to Friday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Ellsbury has not played since April 13 due to a partially dislocated right shoulder.
The 28-year-old outfielder is slated to leadoff and play center field for the Red Sox on Friday.
Ellsbury got off to a slow start this season before getting injured, hitting .192 in 26 at-bats. Last season he enjoyed a breakout campaign, hitting .321 with 32 home runs and 39 stolen bases, also finishing second in MVP voting, winning his first Gold Glove and Silver Slugger and going to his first All- Star Game.
To make room for Ellsbury, the Red Sox designated pitcher Justin Germano for assignment. Germano had not allowed a run in 5 2/3 innings for Boston this season.
Boston better activate as many players as possible to try and get on a hot streak in hopes of a play-off spot. They have a tough schedule ahead of them and it wont come easy. Good Luck Boston.
