The Cleveland Indians have faded quickly in the Wildcard and American League Central races thank to a 9-game losing streak, suggesting it's worth taking a look at what might be on the club's agenda for the offseason.
There are holes -- first base, starting pitching, right-handed hitting outfielder, everyday third baseman and designated hitter, but there are specific players whose contract situations will dictate the team's path.
Travis Hafner has an option that figures to be declined and Shin-Soo Choo, one year from free agency, could be placed on the trade block after this season after having his name bandied about some this summer.
The club must decide whether or not Lonnie Chisenhall is their third baseman for 2013 or if they need to continue down the path of the veteran, such as Jack Hannahan. Grady Sizemore's health status will also play a large role in the offseason moves by GM Chris Antonetti.
The Indians could also field calls for closer Chris Perez to avoid paying a reliever between $6 million and $8 million. Perez is earning $4.5 million this season and is arbitration eligible for the second time this coming winter.
